Privacy & Submission Policy
The Shift Report is a rank-and-file nurse communication space created for NYP Lower Manhattan nurses. We take your privacy — and the privacy of your patients and coworkers — seriously. Here is exactly how we handle what you send us.
How submissions are handled
Submissions are reviewed by authorized site editors/admins. We do not publish identifying information unless you specifically approve it. By default, stories run under a pen name (or no byline at all). For urgent, legal, grievance, discipline, or retaliation concerns, contact a delegate directly.
What we collect
- Submission content — what you write in the form (story, POA report, nomination, etc.) and any files you attach.
- Optional contact info — only if you choose to give us a personal email or phone number for follow-up. Use a personal address, never your work email.
- Newsletter email — if you sign up for the bulletin, we store your email and (optionally) your unit.
- Basic technical data may be processed by the website platform for security, functionality, spam prevention, and site operations. We do not publish technical metadata.
What we publish, and how we strip identifiers
Before anything from a submission appears in print or online, editors review it for identifying details. We strip patient names, MRNs, room numbers, exact dates, and any combination of facts that could re-identify a single patient or coworker. Unsafe details get cut even when you forget to remove them yourself — but please use the PHI checklist on every form to help us out.
Protection from retaliation
Federal labor law protects you when you participate in union activity, including talking to your union newsletter. Submissions are reviewed by authorized site editors/admins. We do not publish identifying information unless you specifically approve it. For urgent, legal, grievance, discipline, or retaliation concerns, contact a delegate directly.
Newsletter list
Your email is used only to send you the bulletin. We do not sell, rent, or share the list. Every issue includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also reply to any issue and ask to be removed.
Retention
Submissions are kept while we work on the related issue and for a reasonable period afterward in case we need to verify a fact or run a follow-up. You can ask us to delete your submission and any contact info at any time — see "Contact" below.
Cookies and tracking
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies for things like staying signed in to the editor portal and remembering your subscription state. We do not use advertising cookies and do not sell data to third parties.
Contact
To delete a submission, unsubscribe, or ask anything about how your information is handled, reach out to your delegate or the editorial team. You can also use the About page for current contact details, or read the submission guidelines for what to include and what to leave out.
